Cambria Fence Installation: The Los Angeles Owner’s Guide

Cambria fence installation in Los Angeles typically runs $4,130 – $10,620 depending on the fence length, gate hardware, and whether the existing posts can be reused or need new footings. We stock Cambria-compatible fence panels, posts, and gate kits, and most repairs are completed in a single day once we’ve matched your part. Most homeowners discover they need this work when a fence section leans after a rain, a gate drags across concrete, or a post wobbles when you push on it and you realize the wood inside the post base has turned soft.

Los Angeles weather does a specific number on fence installations. The combination of dry summers that shrink posts, winter rain that swells them back, and the marine layer that sits on anything west of the 405 means fence hardware corrodes and post bases rot faster here than owners expect. Cambria’s fence line is built with this in mind, but no installation survives neglect.

Which Cambria Models This Applies To

Cambria’s fence catalog breaks into three lines that matter for compatibility: the Cambria Classic series (4-foot and 6-foot panels with square-top pickets), the Cambria Estate series (wider pickets, heavier posts, higher wind rating), and the Cambria gate system, which uses a proprietary hinge bracket that does not interchange with box-store gate hardware. The critical thing to check before ordering is the post spacing. Cambria Classic panels are built for 71.5-inch post-to-post centers. Estate panels require 83-inch centers. If you pull a tape measure and the number is off by more than half an inch, the new panel won’t sit right no matter how careful the install is.

OEM Cambria parts cost more but always match. Quality aftermarket fence panels in Los Angeles run 20 – 35% cheaper and use the same cedar or redwood dimensions, but the hardware plates and screw holes often sit 1/8 inch off from Cambria’s factory drilling. For a gate, we won’t install aftermarket hinges because gate sag is already the number one failure point. For panels, aftermarket is often fine. We’ll tell you which we’d choose for your specific fence and why, with the price difference written down before anything gets ordered.

Penhallow Remodeling is an independent contractor and not affiliated with Cambria. We install Cambria and Cambria-compatible fence parts, and we also work with fencing and hardware lines from KraftMaid, Silestone, and Kohler on related outdoor projects.

Signs Your Cambria Fence Installation Is Failing

  • Leaning posts that straighten after rain, then lean again. The post base has lost its bond with the footing or the footing itself is undersized for your soil. In Los Angeles, clay-heavy soil in the Valley expands and contracts enough to slowly jack posts out of the ground over about 8 – 12 years.
  • Gate drags across the top of the concrete or catches on the latch side. The hinge bracket has worn or the post has moved. Cambria gate hinge brackets fail before the pickets do, which is why we keep spares on the truck for every Cambria gate install we’ve done.
  • Screws pulling out of the rails where panels meet posts. The steel screws used on older Cambria fencing corrode from the inside. Moisture from morning fog and sprinkler overspray gets wicked into the screw channel, and the rust weakens the thread grip until the panel sways.
  • Rust-colored staining running down from hardware points. Galvanized hardware with a compromised coating is bleeding into the wood. Once stain shows, the fastener is usually past saving, and pulling it out often snaps the head off.
  • Base of the post feels spongy or soft when pushed with a screwdriver. Dry rot has set in below the soil line. This is the most common Los Angeles fence issue we see, especially in neighborhoods with sprinkler systems that soak the same post year after year.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

A full Cambria fence installation in Los Angeles typically lands between $4,130 and $10,620. The low end covers a 40 – 50 foot run with existing posts that are still solid and just panel/hardware replacement. The high end covers a 100-foot or larger run, new posts with concrete footings, gate rebuild, and haul-away of the old fence.

What moves the number within that range: linear footage, post condition (reuse vs. new footings), gate count, and whether you need the Cambria Estate series for a wind-exposed hillside location. Parts are roughly 40 – 55% of the total. Labor, concrete, disposal, and hardware make up the rest. Every quote is a written line-item number before we start, and our repair work carries the 365-Day Done Right Promise in writing: if the fence or gate fails within the guarantee period, we come back and fix it at no charge. A second visit if our repair fails is also free, no service call fee.

DIY or Call Us?

You can safely inspect your own fence. Walk the line, push on each post, check the screw heads, and measure your post spacing. You can also tighten loose screws if they still bite, and you can clear dirt and mulch away from post bases, which genuinely extends post life. Trevor Nash has been walking Los Angeles fences for two decades, and his advice has always been the same: give me the whole picture first, then we pick up the tools.

What homeowners should not do themselves is dig out and reset a rotting post. Concrete footings in Los Angeles get deep, and hitting a buried irrigation line or a low-voltage lighting wire is common. A post that’s been leaning for a season is also under load from the attached panel, and popping it loose can swing that panel into the neighbor’s yard or into you. Gates, especially heavy Cambria Estate gates, are best handled by someone who has done the install before. One wrong shim and the gate sags again in three months.
