Schluter Fence Installation: The Los Angeles Owner’s Guide

Schluter fence installation in Los Angeles typically runs $4,130 – $10,620 including parts and labor, and we can usually have a technician out within a few days of your call. Most homeowners discover their Schluter fence has failed when a gate drags on the ground, a panel pulls loose from the post, or the whole section leans after a hard wind off the Santa Anas. You already know the part that needs replacing or the section that’s pulling away. What you need now is a straight price and a plan, and that’s where we come in.

We’re Penhallow Remodeling, an independent Los Angeles contractor. We install and replace Schluter-compatible fence systems, including post bases, panel brackets, gate hinges and the aluminum frame sections themselves. We’re not affiliated with Schluter, but we’ve worked with their product lines long enough to know what fails, what lasts and what a fair installed price looks like in this market.

Which Schluter Models This Applies To

Schluter’s fence and gate systems share a common architecture across their residential aluminum lines, but the part you need depends on which rail profile and post size your existing installation uses. The two most common series in Los Angeles are the SLF edge profile fence panels and the heavier solid-rail lines used on hillside properties where fences double as windbreaks. Look at the inside face of any horizontal rail: Schluter stamps the series code and extrusion date there. If that stamp is faded or painted over, measure the post. 2-inch square posts take one bracket family; 2.5-inch and 3-inch posts take another, and they do not interchange.

The OEM-versus-aftermarket decision is real here. Schluter’s factory post bases and rail brackets are still the best fit for their extrusions, and when we’re matching an existing fence, we use OEM parts unless lead times are unreasonable. For full panel replacement, we often recommend quality aftermarket extrusions that meet the same aluminum grade (6063-T6, the same as Schluter uses) because they save you money without changing how the fence looks or holds up. We’ll show you both options and the price difference before anything is ordered.

Signs Your Schluter Fence Installation Is Failing

  • The gate drags or won’t latch. In most cases the gate post has shifted out of plumb, which is a post base problem, not a hinge problem. Los Angeles soil expands and contracts through the wet-dry season, and that movement loosens set screws over time.
  • A panel rattles in the wind. Schluter panels seat into brackets with a small set screw or clip. When those work loose, the panel gets play. Left alone, the play widens the bracket slot and ruins the bracket.
  • White or grey corrosion at the post base. Coastal Los Angeles air carries salt, and even powder-coated aluminum will corrode where two dissimilar metals meet. If the base washer is steel and it’s touching aluminum post, that junction fails first.
  • Post leans visibly after a storm. Santa Ana winds will find any base that wasn’t set deep enough or anchored to concrete correctly. The base might still look fine, but the anchor bolts below grade have likely pulled loose.
  • Bracket cracks around the mounting hole. This is usually fatigue from the panel shifting or from someone using a gate as a shortcut. Cast aluminum brackets crack before they bend; once cracked, replacement is the only real fix.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

For Los Angeles homeowners, Schluter fence installation and part replacement runs $4,130 – $10,620 as an installed price. The low end covers a post base swap and re-aligning one or two panels. The high end covers replacing a full run of aluminum fence panels with new posts, new brackets, concrete work, and gate reset, which is a more involved job than most people expect once you factor in the concrete footing work under Los Angeles soil conditions. Here’s how the line items break out:

Item Typical Installed Range
Single post base replacement $295 – $650
Panel re-alignment with new brackets $700 – $1,900
Gate reset with new hinges and latch $950 – $2,600
Full fence panel replacement (per 8 ft section) $1,200 – $2,800
Complete Schluter fence install, 50 linear ft $4,130 – $10,620

You get a written price before any work starts: parts, labor, concrete, haul-away, all of it. No number changes at the door. The work itself carries our 365-Day Done Right Promise, which you’ll have in writing. If the fix fails inside a year, we return and make it right at no charge. No service call fee, no re-inspection fee, no fine print.

DIY or Call Us?

There’s a clear line with Schluter fence work, and it sits where concrete and a post hole meet. You can safely check your brackets, set screws, hinges and base bolts with a hex key set and a flashlight. Tightening a loose screw is no more dangerous than tightening a cabinet door. But everything below grade, and anything with the gate hanging its full weight on one bracket, is where DIY goes wrong. Those post bases anchor into concrete; when it’s old or cracked, you don’t know until you start pulling the thing apart, and now you’ve got a leaning section of fence and a gap where your dog gets out. Aluminum fence hardware is under real tension when loaded; searching YouTube for a shortcut is how people get a post dropped on their foot or a panel buckled beyond salvage. If the base is gone or the gate’s sagging, call (936) 259-2607. We’ll send someone who’s done this before, and the estimate is free.
