IKO Fence Installation: The Los Angeles Owner’s Guide
IKO fence installation in Los Angeles typically runs $4,130 to $10,620 for a standard residential perimeter, including materials, posts set in concrete, gates, and site cleanup. We install IKO fence systems regularly across LA neighborhoods from Woodland Hills to Eagle Rock, and we stock the standard IKO panels, posts, and hardware on our trucks so most jobs are done in one to two days. Most homeowners call us after wind damage, dry-rot at the post base, or when a previous contractor set posts too shallow for Los Angeles’s expansive clay soil, and the whole line has started to lean.
Here’s the full picture on IKO fence work, what it costs, why it fails in our climate, and how to know if yours can be salvaged or needs a full replacement.
Which IKO Models This Applies To
IKO manufactures several fence and railing product lines, and the compatibility details matter before you buy a single panel. The most common lines we install in Los Angeles are the IKO Armour Plus composite fence system and the IKO vinyl privacy series, which use different post profiles and bracket systems. The Armour Plus panels are thicker at 1.5 inches, use an aluminum-reinforced post insert, and have a tongue-and-groove design that locks panels together without visible screws. The vinyl privacy series is lighter, uses hollow vinyl posts with U-channel brackets, and is more common in newer subdivisions throughout the San Fernando Valley and the west side.
To identify what you have, pull one post cap and look for the IKO name stamped on the inside wall of the post or check the back of a panel near a rail. The panel thickness is the fastest tell: 1.5 inches means Armour Plus, roughly 3/4 inch means the standard vinyl line. Aftermarket panels are available and can save $6 to $10 per linear foot, but the UV stabilizers in IKO’s California-specific formulation are different from what cheap knockoff panels use. We’ve seen off-brand panels fade to chalky gray in three or four years under direct LA sun, while the IKO panels around them still hold color. For fences exposed to full sun most of the day, we recommend OEM IKO materials. Penhallow Remodeling is an independent contractor, not affiliated with IKO, but we install their systems weekly and keep the common parts in our LA inventory.
Signs Your IKO Fence Installation Is Failing
- Posts leaning more than 5 degrees off plumb. In Los Angeles, this is almost always a footing problem, not a panel problem. Shallow 18-inch holes look fine for the first year, then winter rains saturate the clay soil and the posts start to move. IKO posts should be set at minimum 24 to 30 inches deep depending on panel height, with concrete collars that drain water away from the base.
- Panels rattling or bowing in wind. The bracket hardware on IKO systems has a specific torque spec. When an installer runs screws too tight or too loose, the panels can’t expand and contract with temperature swings, and the thermal movement loosens everything over time. We see this constantly in Santa Clarita and the high desert edges of LA County, where 40-degree daily temperature swings are normal.
- Chalking or streaking below the waterline. Sprinkler overspray and pool splash-back are the two biggest finish killers for IKO vinyl out here. The hard water in most LA neighborhoods carries minerals that etch into the panel surface, and calcium buildup then bakes in the sun. Once the surface is chalky, it can’t be restored, only replaced.
- Gate sagging or dragging on the latch side. IKO gate frames flex more than wood gates, so the hinge-post connection takes real stress. If the gate was hung on a hollow vinyl post without the aluminum reinforcement sleeve, that post will warp, the gate will drop, and the latch will eventually stop catching entirely.
- Mold or mildew streaking in shaded sections. Shaded back fences behind mature ficus or oak trees stay damp through most of LA’s morning marine layer. IKO panels resist rot, but surface mildew takes hold on the textured grain and won’t come off with a pressure washer alone. That’s a drainage and airflow issue more than a material failure, and it needs to be corrected before any panel replacement happens, or the new panel will streak the same way.
Replacement Cost & What’s Included
For a full IKO fence installation in Los Angeles, plan on $4,130 to $10,620 depending on linear footage, panel series, terrain, and access. A shorter 60-foot backyard run with one gate usually lands around $4,500 to $5,500. A 150-foot full perimeter with two gates, a side yard, and uneven grade can push past $9,000. The materials account for roughly 45 to 55 percent of the total, with IKO panels running $45 to $75 per panel depending on the series and whether you need the reinforced Armour Plus line.
Every IKO fence quote we give includes removal and disposal of the old fence, concrete post footings at proper depth, bracket and hardware replacement, gate installation with adjustable hinges, and a final grade and cleanup pass. The price we put in writing is the price you pay. If we hit unexpected conditions underground, like buried concrete from an old fence line or irrigation lines in the post path, we tell you before we touch anything, and we hand you a revised written number on the spot. No change orders at the door. The workmanship on our fence installations carries our 365-Day Done Right Promise in writing: if the fence shifts, sags, or fails within a year, we come back and fix it at no charge.
DIY or Call Us?
You can safely check a few things yourself: look at post plumb with a level, press on each panel to feel for loose brackets, and check if gates swing freely. Those observations help you understand what’s going on before you call anyone. What you should not do is dig out and reset IKO posts yourself without locating irrigation lines, gas lines, and electrical conduit first. LA County has common utility easements along fence lines, and hitting a gas line in a back corner of the yard turns a fence repair into an evacuation. The other thing homeowners underestimate is how heavy a 6-foot IKO panel with aluminum reinforcement actually is when wind grabs it mid-install. A panel can turn into a sail fast.
If the damage is a couple of loose brackets or a single panel swap, that’s often a one-trip fix. If the posts are moving or the whole line is leaning, that’s a foundation problem that needs real excavation and re-setting. Call us at (936) 259-2607, tell us what’s leaning or rattling, and we’ll give you a straight answer on whether it’s a repair or a replacement before anyone sets a post.
FAQs
IKO vinyl and composite fences in Los Angeles typically last 20 to 30 years before panels need replacement, with the biggest variable being sun exposure and sprinkler overspray. A fence with full southern exposure and hard water spray may show cosmetic wear in 8 to 10 years on the lower panels, while the structure itself stays sound much longer. The posts, if set correctly, often outlast the panels. Call (936) 259-2607 if you want us to look at whether your panels or your footings are the limiting factor, estimates are free.
Yes, individual IKO panels can be swapped without replacing the posts, as long as the posts are still plumb and solid. We do single-panel and single-section repairs throughout Los Angeles regularly, and the cost typically runs a fraction of a full replacement. If the posts are the problem, however, patching panels around moving posts is wasted money. Call (936) 259-2607 and we’ll tell you honestly which category your fence falls into.
A standard IKO fence job in Los Angeles takes one to two days from old fence removal to final walk-through, depending on linear footage and terrain. Single-section repairs are usually same-day, since we carry the common IKO panels and hardware on our trucks. We’ll give you a defined arrival window before we show up, and we leave the yard cleaner than we found it.
We stock the most common IKO Armour Plus and vinyl privacy series panels, posts, bracket hardware, and gate kits in our Los Angeles inventory, so most jobs don’t wait on a supplier. Specialty colors and taller panel configurations may need a one- to two-week order window. Call (936) 259-2607 with your panel style and approximate footage, and we’ll tell you what’s on hand before you commit to anything.
No, unless we uncover something underground that was impossible to see before excavation, like an old concrete footing or a utility line in the post path. If that happens, we stop work and hand you a written revised number before we proceed, so you always know the price. The number we give you at the start is the number on the invoice, guaranteed in writing.
If your IKO fence is leaning, faded, or coming apart at the hardware, call (936) 259-2607 to schedule a free estimate. We’ll come out, measure the line, check the posts, and give you a written price before any work starts. Trevor Nash and the Penhallow Remodeling team know IKO systems inside and out, and we stand behind every post we set.
