Tamko Roofing: The Los Angeles Owner’s Guide

We install and repair Tamko roofing products throughout Los Angeles, with most repairs running $710 – $2,950 depending on the extent of the damage and which Tamko line your roof uses. The most common call we get starts the same way: a homeowner spots a curled shingle edge from the driveway, or finds granules collecting in a rain gutter after a Santa Ana wind event, and realizes the roof isn’t shedding water the way it used to. Tamko makes several distinct shingle lines, and matching the right replacement part to your existing roof matters more than most people expect.

Call (936) 259-2607

If you’re seeing missing shingles, daylight through the attic boards, or water staining on a bedroom ceiling, call us at (936) 259-2607. We’ll tell you over the phone whether it sounds like a repair or a replacement, and we’ll put a written number in front of you before any tools come off the truck.

Which Tamko Models This Applies To

Tamko’s residential lineup splits into three main families, and they do not all use the same replacement parts. Heritage is the architectural laminated shingle most common on Los Angeles homes built or reroofed in the last 15 years. Elite Glass-Seal is the premium architectural line with a fiberglass mat and a thicker granule layer. Titan XT is Tamko’s heaviest residential shingle, rated for higher wind zones, and it’s the one we see most often on hillside and canyon properties in the Hollywood Hills and Studio City, where wind loads genuinely differ from the flats.

The compatibility gotcha with Tamko is that color codes change between manufacturing runs, even within the same line. A Heritage shingle in “Weathered Wood” from 2016 will not blend seamlessly with a package stamped 2024, because the granule mix shifts slightly. For small repairs, that’s manageable. For a large patch on a visible roof slope, we sometimes recommend replacing the full plane or considering a reroof, because a mismatched section will be visible from the curb for the next 20 years. When we quote a Tamko repair in Los Angeles, we pull a sample from your roof and match it against current stock before we give you a final number.

OEM Tamko parts carry the full warranty trail, which matters if you’re inside your coverage window. Quality aftermarket underlayment, flashing, and ridge cap are available from brands like GAF and Owens Corning, but for shingles specifically, we recommend staying within the Tamko ecosystem. Mixing shingle brands on a single roof plane is where we see premature failures start.

Signs Your Tamko Roofing Is Failing

  • Granule loss collecting in gutters and downspouts. Tamko shingles shed some granules in their first year as the factory surfacing settles. If you’re still finding bare patches and gritty piles in year five or eight, the asphalt layer is oxidizing and the shingle is losing its UV shield. Here in Los Angeles, our summer UV combined with the dry-season heat cycles ages the asphalt faster than the shingle’s spec sheet would suggest.
  • Curling or cupping at shingle corners. This is the classic sign that the asphalt has dried out and the fiberglass mat is warping. We see it first on south-facing and west-facing roof planes in Los Angeles, where the afternoon sun does the most damage. A curled corner catches wind and starts the peeling process that leads to whole-shingle loss.
  • Bald spots or exposed fiberglass matting. Once the granules are gone, the asphalt layer underneath breaks down fast. A shingle with visible white or gray matting is structurally done. It can’t hold water out for long, and in rainy seasons, water wicks through the mat into the roof deck.
  • Cracked or torn shingles after wind events. Tamko’s Titan XT line is genuinely tougher in wind uplift than the Heritage line, but no shingle survives a flying palm frond or a dislodged branch. If you hear a clatter on the roof during a Santa Ana and then see shingle pieces in the yard, get on the phone. A torn shingle is a roof leak waiting for the next rain.
  • Water staining on ceilings or around the chimney chase. By the time you see interior staining, the leak has already found a path through the underlayment and the decking. This is a warning sign more serious than the shingle itself, and often means the flashing or the underlayment failed before the shingle did. We’ve opened up roof sections in older homes in Sherman Oaks and Pasadena where the shingle looked fine from the outside, but the underlayment underneath had turned to paper.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

Tamko roof repairs in Los Angeles typically run $710 – $2,950 when the damage is isolated to a few damaged or missing shingles, a section of ridge cap, or a single penetration like a vent pipe or a skylight. A full Tamko roof replacement runs $9,440 – $23,600 depending on the roof’s square footage, the pitch, the number of planes, whether we’re removing one layer or two of old roofing, and which Tamko line you choose. Heritage is the budget-conscious architectural option. Elite Glass-Seal and Titan XT push the material cost up by design.

Every repair quote from us includes the parts, the labor, tear-off and disposal where needed, new underlayment on any opened section, and sealing on all penetrations we touch. We give you a written number before any work starts, not a range, and not a verbal ballpark. The written price we hand you is the invoice you pay. If the repair fails inside the year, we come back at no charge, no re-inspection fee, no argument. That’s the 365-Day Done Right Promise and it’s written into every Tamko repair we do in Los Angeles.

DIY or Call Us?

Walking a roof in Los Angeles is not something we recommend doing casually. Ramps of Spanish tile, steep pitches on mid-century homes in the hills, and loose debris from the last wind event make a roof visit genuinely dangerous if you don’t have the right ladder, harness, and footwear. We tell homeowners this plainly: inspecting from the ground or from a gutter-level ladder is fine. Climbing onto the roof itself is where we’ve seen homeowners get hurt.

What you can safely check yourself: look for missing tabs from the ground, check gutters for granule buildup, and note any wet spots on interior ceilings after rain. What you shouldn’t do is pry up shingles, nail new shingles over damaged ones, or attempt any repair that involves a ladder on a two-story pitch. The risk of a fall is not worth the money saved, and a bad shingle patch voids whatever conditional warranty may still apply to your Tamko product. Call us at (936) 259-2607, tell us what you’re seeing, and we’ll walk you through whether it’s a same-week repair or a larger conversation. Give me the whole picture first, then we pick up the tools.
