Oldcastle Bathroom Remodeling: The Los Angeles Owner’s Guide

If you have an Oldcastle bathroom product that’s failed or is on its way out, we can source the matching part and handle the full remodel or repair. A complete Oldcastle-compatible bathroom remodel in Los Angeles typically runs $10,620 – $33,040 installed, depending on whether you’re replacing a single component or gutting the whole room. Most owners discover the problem the same way: a shower door that no longer seals, a vanity drawer that won’t close right, or water staining on the ceiling below a second-floor bath.

We’re Penhallow Remodeling, and we’re an independent Los Angeles contractor. We are not affiliated with Oldcastle, but we work with their product lines regularly because so many homes across the Valley, Westside, and South Bay have them.

Which Oldcastle Models This Applies To

Oldcastle doesn’t sell direct to homeowners, so the product in your bathroom came through a builder, a supply house, or a previous contractor. That means the model number on the box is often long gone by the time something fails. Here’s what actually helps us identify the right part for your Los Angeles home:

  • Look for a label inside the vanity cabinet or on the shower pan underside. Oldcastle products typically carry a stamped or stickered ID with a series code and manufacture date.
  • Measure the rough opening, not the finished surface. Shower pans and tub surrounds are sized to specific rough-in dimensions, and an eighth of an inch difference matters. We’ve seen owners order a 60-inch pan for a 59½-inch alcove and end up with a cracked flange after install.
  • OEM vs aftermarket: For Oldcastle shower pans, tub surrounds, and vanity tops, we recommend OEM or direct-match equivalents from regional supply houses in Los Angeles that stock the same molds. There’s a compatibility gotcha with older Oldcastle cultured-marble surrounds: the drain placement was often offset 1½ inches from center, which doesn’t line up with generic replacements. Aftermarket pans will fail in those layouts unless the drain is relocated.

Signs Your Oldcastle Bathroom Remodeling Is Failing

  • Water staining on the ceiling below the bathroom. This usually means the shower pan’s silicone bead or the pan itself has cracked. In Los Angeles, our dry air hides slow leaks for months because water evaporates before it pools, so by the time you see the stain, the subfloor has been wet for a while.
  • Shower door no longer closes square. Oldcastle frameless door hinges and clips wear at different rates. Once the door drops even a quarter-inch, the sweep drags and the latch misaligns. That’s a hardware issue, not a door warping issue, and it’s usually fixable without replacing the glass.
  • Grout cracking along the pan-to-wall joint. The pan flexes slightly with weight and temperature shifts. In Los Angeles, we get enough summer-to-winter temperature swing that rigid grout at that joint cracks within a few years. We always replace that joint with flexible silicone, never grout.
  • Soft spots in the vanity base near the sink. Oldcastle vanity bases from the mid-2000s used particleboard that swells once the laminate seam fails. If you press on the cabinet floor and it gives, the box is done. The top is usually salvageable.
  • Persistent musty smell with no visible water. That’s often a failed seal around the tub drain or a crack in the overflow gasket. The water goes into the cavity under the tub and sits there. In Los Angeles humidity patterns, it won’t dry on its own.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

Here’s what we’re quoting for Oldcastle-related bathroom work in Los Angeles right now:

Scope Installed Price Range
Full bathroom remodel (Oldcastle-compatible) $10,620 – $33,040
Small bathroom remodel $5,900 – $14,160
Walk-in shower installation $5,310 – $14,160
Tub-to-shower conversion $4,130 – $11,800
Shower replacement $3,540 – $10,030
Bathroom vanity installation $945 – $3,540

The spread comes down to a few things: the size of the room, whether you’re moving plumbing or keeping the existing layout, and the material grade on the replacement fixture. We give you a written price before any work starts. If we write $12,475, that’s the number on the invoice, period. The written guarantee that comes with every job covers the workmanship for 365 days. If something fails in that window, we’re back to fix it at no charge. No service call fee, no re-inspection cost.

DIY or Call Us?

Some things you can check yourself. If the shower door isn’t closing right, check whether the hinge screws are tight. If the vanity drawer sticks, pull it out and look for a loose bracket. But here’s the honest line: once you’re dealing with pans, drains, or any plumbing connection, stop. A shower pan that’s pulled away from the flange or a drain with a slow leak under the tub will quietly wreck your subfloor. Los Angeles homes built before 1990 often have plywood subfloors that rot fast once water gets through. That’s a repair that goes from $1,500 to $9,000 overnight if it’s ignored. Call (936) 259-2607 and we’ll send someone out to look at it. The estimate is free.
