Ameristar Kitchen Remodeling: The Los Angeles Owner’s Guide
Ameristar kitchen remodeling in Los Angeles typically costs $16,520 – $53,100 installed, depending on cabinet line, countertop material, and whether plumbing or electrical move. Most full Ameristar-compatible kitchen projects take 2 – 5 weeks once materials land, not the 3-day turnaround some shops advertise for a cabinet swap. You’ll usually discover the failing part the hard way: a drawer front pulls off a delaminated face frame, a corner cabinet hinge tears out of the particleboard, or a countertop seam opens after a few years of heavy use and you start seeing water stains under the lip.
We’re Penhallow Remodeling, and we don’t sell Ameristar-branded parts directly. What we do is source and install Ameristar-compatible components for Los Angeles kitchens that were built with this mid-tier cabinet brand, match the door profile and finish, and get the whole room back to work. Trevor Nash runs our crews, and we’ve been fixing and replacing Ameristar-era kitchens across the Valley and Westside long enough to know which parts fail first.
Which Ameristar Models This Applies To
Ameristar built kitchen cabinetry under several series lines through the 1990s and 2000s, most commonly the Ameristar Signature, Ameristar Classic Oak, and their economy Melamine line that showed up in a lot of LA condos and rental rehabs. The most reliable way to identify your model is a small foil or paper label inside the sink base cabinet, usually on the left interior wall. It’ll have a 6-digit part number starting with “AS” followed by the model year.
Here’s the compatibility gotcha that trips up a lot of Los Angeles homeowners: Ameristar’s 1998 – 2004 lines used a 1/2-inch door overlay, but their 2005-and-later Signature series switched to 1-1/4-inch concealed hinges. If you try to hang a post-2005 door on a pre-2004 face frame with the original hinge cups, the door sits proud and the reveal looks wrong. We match hinges and overlay first, before ordering a single door front. On the OEM-versus-aftermarket question: genuine leftover Ameristar doors are increasingly rare and usually come in one finish only, while our local cabinet shops mill new doors and drawer fronts to match the existing profile in under two weeks. For most replacements, we spec quality aftermarket doors on the original boxes to keep costs down and color match tighter.
We also work with KraftMaid and Wellborn cabinetry, plus Cambria and Silestone countertops, when a section of the kitchen is too far gone to patch and it makes more sense to replace the run entirely.
Signs Your Ameristar Kitchen Remodeling Is Failing
- Drawer fronts pulling off. Ameristar’s mid-tier line used glue blocks plus brad nails under the front panel, and in LA’s dry-wet seasonal cycles that joint fails first. You’ll see a hairline gap at the top of the drawer face, then the whole front will flex when you pull.
- Hinges ripping out of the cabinet box. The cabinet end panels on many Ameristar era boxes were 5/8-inch particleboard, not plywood, and the hinge screws lose their bite after a few years of daily oven traffic. We fix this by through-bolting with barrel nuts or adding a maple filler strip behind the hinge plate.
- Water staining or swelling around the sink base. Ameristar used a melamine edge band that wicks water at the toe kick seam if the sink bowl ever leaked. Once the panel starts swelling, the band separates and the corner gets soft.
- Countertop seams popping at the sink or in a corner. Quartz, granite, and solid surface all expand and contract with LA’s temperature swings from the Valley heat to over-air-conditioned nights. A seam that didn’t get enough adhesive in the original install can open up inside a year.
- Soft-close runners failing on rolled trays. Ameristar’s roll-out trays used a simple white plastic runner clip that eventually snaps. The tray still slides, but it drags, and the left-right play gets sloppy. We keep these changed out before the tray frame itself starts wearing down.
Replacement Cost & What’s Included
In Los Angeles, a full Ameristar-compatible kitchen remodel runs $16,520 – $53,100. A small kitchen with stock cabinetry and laminate tops lands near the bottom of that range; a larger kitchen with custom door fronts, Cambria or Silestone counters, and moving the sink rough-in pushes toward the top. Cabinet installation alone runs $4,720 – $15,340, and countertop installation runs $2,360 – $7,670, with backsplash installation from $945 – $2,950.

Every number we give you is a written price before work starts, not an estimate range you’ll see grow on demo day. The written number includes material, labor, haul-off, and the 365-Day Done Right Promise: if a hinge tears out, a drawer binds, or a seam separates inside the first year, we come back and make it right at no charge. That’s the Kingswell Way, and it’s been how we’ve run jobs since 2004.
DIY or Call Us?
You can safely check a few things on your own. Tighten a loose hinge screw, wipe down an edge band to see if it’s actually cracked or just dirty, and pull a drawer out to check whether the runner clip is snapped. That tells us a lot before we even come look.
But here’s where DIY goes sideways on Ameristar-era kitchens: once a particleboard end panel has swollen from water, tightening the hinge can’t save it, and adding longer screws just crumbles the material more. A countertop seam that’s opened needs the sink pulled, the seam cleaned and re-bonded, and the sink re-set under weight overnight. If the supply lines under the sink are the old gray polybutylene, that’s a plumbing liability best left to someone who’s sweating the same joints in a hundred other San Fernando Valley kitchens. Call (936) 259-2607 before you start, and we’ll tell you honestly what needs a pro and what you can check yourself.
FAQs
Ameristar mid-tier cabinets usually hold up 20 – 25 years in LA’s climate, but the hinges and drawer runners start showing failure around year 12 – 15. The boxes often survive long enough to warrant a door-and-hardware refresh rather than a full tear-out.
If your doors are straight but the hardware is failing, you may only need new front surfaces and slides, not new boxes. Call (936) 259-2607 and we’ll tell you which path makes sense for your kitchen.
Yes, in most cases a delaminated drawer face, separated edge band, or torn-out hinge plate can be repaired on site, usually for less than half of replacement cost. Full box water damage is the exception; once particleboard end panels blow out, no repair will hold.
We’ll give you the repair price and the replacement price up front so you decide with real numbers, not guesses. Estimates are free.
A cabinet hardening and hinge replacement on one or two cabinets is usually done in a half day; refacing all the doors and drawer fronts takes 3 – 5 working days, and a full kitchen remodel is 2 – 5 weeks once materials are on site.
The material lead time is what controls your schedule most. We order before we demo, so your kitchen only goes down once.
We stock common Ameristar-compatible roller tray clips, hinge plates, corner braces, and edge band material on the trucks, and we source door fronts, drawer boxes, and custom profiles from local Los Angeles cabinet shops. You never need to chase down parts yourself.
Call (936) 259-2607 and describe what you see. We’ll bring the common parts on the first trip and avoid the second-visit shuffle.
