Cover Driveway & Pavers: The Los Angeles Owner’s Guide

If your Cover driveway or paver section has cracked, sunk, or separated, we stock and install compatible replacement materials across Los Angeles, with most paver driveways running $8,260 – $21,240 installed depending on square footage, base condition, and paver line. The tell is usually visible before it’s structural: a paver that rocks underfoot, a low spot that ponds water after rain, or a joint that keeps spitting sand no matter how many times you sweep it back in. Most Los Angeles homeowners call us after the first good rain of the season, when a dip they’d been ignoring turns into a puddle the size of a welcome mat.

Which Cover Models This Applies To

Cover’s driveway and paver systems fall into two general families: the modular concrete paver lines (the kind with interlocking edges and a manufactured surface texture) and the larger-format slab pavers used for driveway aprons and walkways. The compatibility gotcha we see most often in Los Angeles is thickness. Driveway-rated pavers need to be at least 60mm thick to handle vehicle weight; patio pavers are typically 40mm and will crack under a car within a season or two. If you’re replacing a driveway section, don’t let anyone sell you the thinner patio stock because it’s in the same color family.

To identify what you have, flip up an edge paver and check the underside for a mold code. Cover stamps a series identifier on most of their lines, and matching that code gets you the right dimensional profile and the right color blend. We install OEM Cover pavers when the line is still in production, and we also work with quality aftermarket equivalents from Belgard and Unilock when a Cover color has been discontinued. The honest tradeoff: aftermarket lines may be a shade off from a sun-faded original, so we always lay out a test section in daylight before committing the whole driveway to a match.

Signs Your Cover Driveway & Pavers Is Failing

  • Rocking or shifting pavers underfoot. This almost always means the bedding sand layer has washed out or compacted unevenly. Left alone, the paver edges start chipping against each other and the problem spreads outward in a ring.
  • Water ponding in one area. A low spot means the base beneath that section has settled, often because the original install didn’t compact in lifts. In Los Angeles, our clay-heavy soil expands and contracts with moisture, which makes skipped compaction show up within the first two winters.
  • Sand washing out of joints every rain. Joint sand is the glue that locks pavers together. If it keeps disappearing, water is moving under the pavers, not over them. That’s a drainage problem, not just a cosmetic one.
  • Visible cracking across multiple pavers in a line. Cracks that run in a pattern usually point to a base failure or a heavy-vehicle load the driveway was never designed for. One cracked paver is a part swap; a line of them is a rebuild.
  • Edges spreading outward at the driveway perimeter. Without a proper edge restraint, pavers drift. We see this constantly on Los Angeles homes where the original contractor skipped the restraint strip to save money. The driveway slowly widens and the outer course starts breaking off.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

In Los Angeles, a full Cover-compatible paver driveway replacement runs $8,260 – $21,240. The spread comes down to three things: square footage (a two-car driveway is roughly 400 – 700 square feet), what we find under the pavers once we lift them, and whether you’re reusing any existing base. A straight paver swap with a solid base underneath lands at the low end. Digging out a failed base, regrading for drainage, and rebuilding in compacted lifts pushes you toward the upper end.

Every quote includes demolition and haul-off of the old pavers, base repair or replacement, new bedding sand, the pavers themselves, joint sand, edge restraints, and compaction. The price we write down is the price on the invoice. No change orders unless you change the scope. And the work carries our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if a paver shifts or a joint fails inside a year, we come back and fix it at no charge. That’s in writing, on every job, same as the price.

DIY or Call Us?

You can safely diagnose a lot on your own. Walk the driveway after rain and mark the spots that pond. Run your hand along the joints and note where sand is missing. Tap suspicious pavers with a rubber mallet; a hollow thud usually means the paver’s fine but the support underneath isn’t. None of that requires tools or risk.

Where DIY goes wrong is lifting and resetting a large section without addressing the base. Pull up twenty pavers, re-sand the top layer, and you’ll have the same problem again in six months because the base is still compacting. And matching color on a partial repair is genuinely hard; sun-faded pavers next to new ones look patched unless the blend is dialed in. If you’re dealing with more than a few pavers, or anything near a slope, call us at (936) 259-2607. Trevor Nash grew up in Reseda watching his uncle rebuild ranch houses, and he’ll tell you straight: give me the whole picture first, then we pick up the tools.
