Cover Windows & Doors: The Los Angeles Owner’s Guide

Cover window and door replacement in Los Angeles typically runs $5,310 – $17,700 installed, depending on the unit, opening size, and whether we’re swapping glass or the full frame. We stock Cover-compatible components on our trucks and can usually start the job within a few days of your free estimate. Most owners discover a failed Cover window or door the hard way: a room that won’t hold temperature in August, a slider that suddenly drags, or a lock that no longer seats against the strike plate. You don’t need to know the exact part number to call us. That’s our job.

We’re an independent Los Angeles remodeling contractor, not a Cover dealer or corporate affiliate. That independence matters to you for one reason: we recommend the fix that actually makes sense for your house, not the one that helps a brand hit a sales target.

Which Cover Models This Applies To

Cover manufactures windows and doors across several series lines, and the Los Angeles housing stock runs the full range: 1950s ranch houses in Reseda with original single-pane frames, 1990s stucco boxes in North Hollywood, and newer hillside builds with low-E double-pane units. The compatibility issue is rarely the glass itself. It’s the frame dimensions and the hardware spec.

Here’s what to look for. On the window sash or door edge, you’ll find a small sticker or etched marking with a series code, usually two letters followed by four digits. That code tells us the frame profile, the glass pack, and the hardware generation. Cover changed its roller and hinge hardware around 2016, and mixing pre-2016 frames with post-2016 rollers causes the door to sit too high or too low in the track. We see that exact mismatch in Los Angeles garages and patio sliders more than any other Cover issue.

For the OEM-versus-aftermarket decision, here’s our honest position. Cover’s OEM glass carries a solid warranty, but it’s often backordered 3 – 6 weeks. Quality aftermarket low-E glass from LA glass suppliers matches the thermal spec and lands in about a week. For hinges, locks, and rollers, we prefer OEM Cover hardware when it’s available because the screw patterns and setback distances are exact. For glass, we let lead time and price drive the recommendation.

Signs Your Cover Windows & Doors Is Failing

  • Condensation between the panes. The seal on a double-pane unit has failed and argon gas has escaped. In Los Angeles, where overnight temperature swings stress seals, this shows up as fog that won’t wipe off because it’s inside the glass pack.
  • The slider grinds or jumps the track. Worn rollers are the culprit. Cover sliders from the pre-2016 hardware generation wear roller bearings flat, and the door starts dragging on the aluminum track instead of rolling. Left alone, it scores the track and turns a $90 roller swap into a frame-level repair.
  • The handle turns but the lock won’t throw. The multi-point lock body is out of alignment with the receiver on the frame. Los Angeles homes shift with heat and dry soil, and that movement is usually what pulls the two halves out of line, not a broken lock cylinder.
  • You can feel air moving around the frame edges on a still day. Weatherstripping has compressed or the frame has bowed slightly. In older Los Angeles homes with wood framing, dry rot softens the jamb and the whole unit loses its compression seal.
  • The window won’t stay open. The balancer or spiral rod inside the side jamb gave out. This is a quick fix when caught early and a much bigger one if the sash has been slamming shut for months.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

For Los Angeles homeowners, expect to pay $5,310 – $17,700 for a full window replacement depending on size, frame material, and whether we’re pulling the old frame or retrofitting into it. A single Cover-compatible door, like a patio slider or French unit, runs $5,900 – $16,520 installed. If you’re replacing a failed part rather than a whole unit, the math changes fast: rollers run $90 – $220 per door including labor, a new multi-point lock body runs $140 – $320 installed, and a replacement double-pane glass pack runs $450 – $1,100 depending on glass size and low-E coating.

Every quote we write includes the parts, labor, haul-away of the old unit, and finishing trim. You get a written number before we touch anything, and that number doesn’t change unless you ask us to change the scope. On top of your written quote, every Cover window and door repair we do carries our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if the fix fails inside a year, we come back and make it right at no charge.

DIY or Call Us?

Some checks you can do safely: looking for the series code sticker, noting where condensation sits, testing whether the door is level across the track. What we don’t recommend you do yourself is pull a slider off its track to inspect rollers, or attempt a balancer swap on a hung window. Sliders are heavy, the glass breaks hard, and the tension hardware on hung windows can take a finger if it lets go. Give me the whole picture first, then we pick up the tools.

If you’re on the fence, call Trevor at (936) 259-2607 and describe what you’re seeing. We’ll tell you over the phone whether it sounds like a $90 roller or a $1,000 glass pack, and we’ll schedule the free estimate only if it makes sense to send someone.
