CWS Kitchen Remodeling: The Los Angeles Owner’s Guide

If your CWS kitchen has a failing hinge, drawer glide, cabinet box or countertop seam, we stock common CWS-compatible replacement parts on our trucks and install most of them in a single visit. A full CWS kitchen remodeling job in Los Angeles typically runs $16,520 – $53,100 depending on cabinet line, countertop material and layout changes, while a targeted parts replacement (single cabinet, drawer stack, section of countertop) usually lands between $350 and $2,600 installed. You’ll usually notice the problem first as a drawer that sticks, a door that sags, a soft-close hinge that stopped catching, or a caulked seam that keeps splitting open no matter how many times it’s been re-caulked. Penhallow Remodeling is an independent remodeling contractor in Los Angeles, not affiliated with CWS, but we work on CWS kitchens every month and know how their parts fail and what actually fixes them.

Which CWS Models This Applies To

CWS built kitchens across a wide range of Los Angeles homes from the 1990s through the 2010s, and the parts in those kitchens came from several different cabinet and hardware lines depending on the year and the original installer. The most common configurations we see in Los Angeles are framed cabinets with exposed hinges, full-overlay doors, and soft-close mechanisms that were an upgrade at the time of original build. If you have a CWS kitchen, the easiest way to identify what you’re working with is to pull one drawer out and look at the glide manufacturer stamped on the side, or check the inside of a cabinet door for a hinge brand mark. The door hinge will usually be Blum, Grass, or Salice, and the drawer glides are most often Blum Tandem or Accuride. We’ve seen homeowners order a generic replacement hinge online only to find the mounting pattern is off by 3 millimeters, which means the door never sits flush again. That’s the compatibility gotcha with CWS kitchens: the cabinet box dimensions are forgiving, but hinge overlay, slide length and drawer box clearance are not. For most CWS kitchens, a quality aftermarket hinge or glide from Blum or Salice will perform as well as the OEM part at roughly half the cost, and we keep those on the truck. For cabinet boxes that are water-damaged or delaminating, we recommend replacement over repair because the particleboard core in most CWS boxes swells and never returns to shape once it gets wet, which is common in Los Angeles homes near older plumbing.

Signs Your CWS Kitchen Remodeling Is Failing

  • Drawer sticks or drops on one side. This usually means the glide has worn or a mounting screw has backed out. The drawer box is still fine; the hardware has just hit the end of its service life.
  • Cabinet door sags and won’t line up with its neighbor. This is typically a worn hinge, not a structural problem. Blum and Grass hinges have a finite cycle life, and a Los Angeles kitchen that gets used daily puts real cycles on them.
  • Soft-close stopped working. The damper inside the hinge or glide is shot. You can’t rebuild it; you replace the hinge or glide, and the door or drawer feels new again.
  • Countertop seam keeps cracking or lifting. In Los Angeles, temperature swings and foundation movement in older slab homes put stress on countertop seams. If the seam has failed twice, the fix is a proper seam repair or a section replacement, not more caulk.
  • Cabinet box is swollen, dark, or smells musty. This is water damage, typically from a sink or dishwasher leak. The particleboard is compromised, and you’re better off replacing the affected box than trying to dry it out.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

Here’s what we charge in Los Angeles for the most common CWS kitchen parts replacements, installed:

  • Hinge replacement (per pair): $30 – $85 installed
  • Drawer glide replacement (per pair): $45 – $120 installed
  • Drawer box replacement: $85 – $240 installed
  • Single cabinet box replacement: $400 – $1,200 installed depending on size and finish
  • Countertop section replacement (laminate or butcher block): $350 – $1,800 installed depending on linear feet and material
  • Full CWS kitchen remodel (cabinets, counters, backsplash, islands): $16,520 – $53,100

Every one of those numbers is a written price before we touch a tool, and it holds. What drives a parts replacement up is what we find when we open the cabinet: if the box is wet or split, that’s cabinet replacement, not a hinge swap. What drives a full remodel up is cabinet line (stock versus semi-custom), countertop material (laminate versus Cambria or Silestone quartz), and whether you’re moving plumbing or electrical. Our labor on parts work includes removal of the failed part, installation of the replacement, and haul-away of the old hardware. We also put a written guarantee on every parts repair, and if it fails inside a year, we come back and fix it at no charge under our 365-Day Done Right Promise.

DIY or Call Us?

Hinges and glides are the one place where a homeowner with a screwdriver and patience can do honest work. If the cabinet box is solid and you’re just swapping a hinge or glide, measure the overlay or the slide length carefully, match the mounting pattern, and you can do it. Where DIY goes wrong in CWS kitchens is when the cabinet box itself is damaged, or when the hinge screws have stripped out of the particleboard and someone tries to fill the hole with toothpicks and glue. That fix lasts about six months in a Los Angeles kitchen that sees daily use. Countertop seam work is also not a DIY job: the seam needs to be cut clean and re-bonded with the right adhesive, and a bad seam in a kitchen with a sink nearby means water gets under the counter. If the part is failing because the box behind it is wet or split, call us. Give me the whole picture first, then we pick up the tools. We’re at (936) 259-2607, and estimates are free.
