Jerith Kitchen Remodeling: The Los Angeles Owner’s Guide
If you have a Jerith kitchen and something’s failed, we stock Jerith-compatible replacement parts and install them across Los Angeles, typically for $165 to $530 in parts with labor running $120 to $240 per hour depending on cabinet access and hinge hardware. Most Jerith owners discover the failure the same way: a door that won’t close square, a drawer slide that grinds, or a pull-out shelf that suddenly sags. You’re here because you want the right part matched to your exact model, and you want it installed without a second visit.
We’re Penhallow Remodeling, an independent Los Angeles contractor, not affiliated with Jerith. But we’ve worked with enough Jerith cabinetry and hardware over the years to know exactly what fails, which parts interchange, and what it costs to make it right.
Which Jerith Models This Applies To
Jerith cabinetry has used several hinge and slide families over the years. The most common compatibility issue we see in Los Angeles homes is a homeowner ordering a hinge that fits a newer Jerith frame but won’t seat into an older face-frame cabinet. Jerith moved from 35mm cup hinges with a 9mm drilling depth to 40mm cups on some Euro-style lines around 2016. If you have a granite or Cambria countertop with an undermount sink, the cabinet below typically uses their heavy-duty 160lb full-extension slides, not the standard 100lb version.
Here’s the practical way to confirm what you need: open the cabinet door and look at the hinge arm. If it has a small “J” stamped near the mounting screw, it’s the older 35mm series. If it has two adjustment screws plus a rear clip, it’s the newer 40mm soft-close. For drawers, pull the drawer out and check the slide length printed on the side rail. Most Los Angeles-era Jerith kitchens use 18″, 21″, or 24″ slides, and the length must match exactly. A 21″ slide will not bolt into a 24″ cabinet frame without an extension bracket, and that’s the kind of shortcut we refuse to take.
On the OEM versus aftermarket question: Jerith’s OEM hinges are made by a major hardware supplier and rebranded, so a quality aftermarket equivalent from the same spec family is usually fine. We stock both, and we’ll tell you honestly when OEM matters and when it doesn’t.
Signs Your Jerith Kitchen Remodeling Is Failing
- Door drifts closed on its own – The soft-close mechanism inside the hinge cup has worn out. This is the hydraulic dampener, and it’s the single most common Jerith part we replace in Los Angeles, especially in kitchens near the coast where salt air accelerates corrosion.
- Drawer feels like it’s dragging – The ball bearings inside the slide have flattened or rusted. You’ll hear a gritty sound. Replace the slide now; if you keep yanking, the drawer box itself starts to wear at the mounting points.
- Soft-close stopped working on one door, then another – This is normal aging. Jerith hinges from the 2009 – 2015 era tend to lose damping around the 10-year mark. You can replace just the dampener cartridge, which costs less than a full hinge.
- Cabinet door sags at the outer corner – The mounting plate has pulled slightly from the face frame. It may just need a screw retightened, but if the wood threads are stripped, we drill, dowel, and remount rather than jamming in a longer screw.
- Pull-out shelf sticks halfway out – The slide is bent or the rear mounting clip snapped. This is common under heavy loads like stacked plates on a pull-out pantry. Forcing it further just gouges the slide rail.
Replacement Cost & What’s Included
In Los Angeles, full kitchen remodels run $16,520 to $53,100, but Jerith part replacement is a much smaller job. For cabinet hardware specifically, you’re looking at:
- Single soft-close hinge assembly: $18 to $45 installed
- Drawer slide pair, standard duty: $35 to $80 installed
- Drawer slide pair, heavy-duty 160lb: $60 to $120 installed
- Pull-out shelf slide assembly: $55 to $110 installed
- Full door realignment (all hinges): $85 to $180
What drives the price: cabinet access (corner units take longer), whether we’re matching an older Jerith series that needs shimming, and how many parts you’re replacing in one trip. Every job gets a written price before we start. The number on day one is the number on the invoice. That’s how we operate, and we put it in writing on every project.
DIY or Call Us?
Cabinet hinges and slides are not high-tension parts, so this is one of the safer kitchen repairs. What you can do yourself: tighten the two adjustment screws on a hinge, check whether a slide is just clogged with debris, or measure your existing slide length. What goes wrong with DIY: cross-threading a hinge screw into a stripped face-frame hole, ordering the wrong cup depth because the old hinge wasn’t measured, or forcing a soft-close hinge into an older Jerith frame where the cup hole is too shallow. If you’re not sure which series you have, send us a photo. We’ll identify it. If we can’t tell from a photo, we’ll come look. Call (936) 259-2607 and we’ll walk you through the first step over the phone.
As Trevor Nash puts it: “Give me the whole picture first, then we pick up the tools.” Send the photo, tell us what’s happening, and we’ll speak plainly about whether this is a $25 hinge or a $1,200 drawer box rebuild.
FAQs
Jerith soft-close hinges typically last 8 to 14 years in Los Angeles, with coastal homes seeing shorter lifespans because salt air accelerates internal corrosion. The dampener cartridge usually fails before the hinge body itself, which means you can often replace a $6 cartridge instead of an $18 hinge.
Sometimes. If the dampener is just weak, a replacement cartridge fixes it in about five minutes. If the hinge cup is cracked or the mounting plate is bent, the whole assembly should be replaced. We’ll tell you which one you need and write the price before we do anything. Call (936) 259-2607 for a precise answer on yours.
Most hinge or slide replacements take 30 to 60 minutes total. A full kitchen with ten failing hinges and three drawer slides might take half a day. We give you a real arrival window and we show up inside it, uniformed and background-checked, every time.
We keep the most common Jerith hinge sizes and slide lengths on the truck, plus adjustment clips and mounting plates. We also work with parts from KraftMaid, Cambria, and Silestone cabinetry lines. If we don’t have your exact part that day, we order it and schedule the return visit at no extra charge. The free return visit is part of our 365-Day Done Right Promise, in writing.
