KraftMaid Fence Installation: The Los Angeles Owner’s Guide

We install KraftMaid-compatible fence systems throughout Los Angeles, with most projects running $4,130 to $10,620 depending on linear footage, style, and whether we’re replacing an existing fence or starting fresh. Most owners catch the problem early: a gate that suddenly drags against the latch, a post leaning after heavy rain, or a section that rattles loose in Santa Ana winds. You can usually get a crew out within a few days, and we carry the common KraftMaid post caps, gate hinges, and picket fasteners on the truck so a first-visit fix is often the only visit.

If you’re seeing warped pickets, a gate that won’t stay closed, or posts pulling out of the ground, that’s not just wear and tear. That’s a fence telling you the structural parts underneath are past their useful life. The good news is that KraftMaid fence components are designed to be matched and swapped, and we’ve been doing exactly that across Los Angeles long enough to know which parts fail first and what actually holds up in our climate. As Trevor Nash puts it: “Give me the whole picture first, then we pick up the tools.”

Which KraftMaid Models This Applies To

KraftMaid is better known for cabinets, but their outdoor fence line carries the same part-number logic. Most Los Angeles homes we service have one of three KraftMaid fence families: the estate-style aluminum, the classic wood privacy, or the newer composite plank system. Here’s the part that trips people up: KraftMaid aluminum fence panels are not universal across series. A post cap from the Bristol series will not seat correctly on a Hamilton series post. The cap diameter differs by a quarter inch, and that’s enough to leave a wobble that grows. We verify series by checking the stamped code on the inside of the gate frame, usually a two-letter prefix followed by four digits. If the stamp is worn off, we measure the post’s outer dimension and match the cap shank from there.

For wood systems, the main compatibility question is picket thickness: KraftMaid’s standard is 5/8-inch, but some LA homes got the commercial 3/4-inch line. Using the wrong fastener depth strips the picket or leaves it loose. On the composite side, the rail profile changed around 2019, so an aftermarket rail kit meant for the older style won’t seat level. We keep the OEM-equivalent parts in stock, and we’ll tell you honestly when a quality aftermarket bracket does the same job for less. One thing to know in Los Angeles: KraftMaid’s wood line is factory-sealed, but our dry summers and the salt air near the coast still pull moisture out of the boards faster than the manufacturer’s Midwest climate assumptions. Expect to reseal every three to four years, not the five the tag suggests.

Signs Your KraftMaid Fence Installation Is Failing

  • Gate drags or won’t latch. This is almost always a sagging hinge or a post that has shifted at the base. In Los Angeles, the soil under fence posts expands in winter rain and contracts in summer heat, which loosens the post footing over time. The post then leans just enough to pull the gate out of square with the latch.
  • Pickets are warping or pulling free at the fasteners. KraftMaid’s 5/8-inch pickets use a specific fastener depth. When the wood swells from morning marine layer moisture and then bakes in afternoon sun, the expansion cycle works the fasteners loose. Once one picket goes, its neighbors shift and the whole section starts to look like a bad comb.
  • Post caps are cracked or lifted on the corners. The plastic cap on a KraftMaid aluminum post takes direct UV exposure year-round. After about six to eight Los Angeles summers, the cap embrittles and splits. It’s cosmetic at first, but once water gets inside the post, the fasteners at the gate hinges start rusting from the inside out.
  • Rails feel spongy near the middle of each section. The horizontal rails are the spine of the fence. When they sag under the weight of the pickets, it usually means the rail has absorbed moisture at the end grain, or the joining bracket has corroded. You’ll notice the top line of the fence starts to look uneven from the street.
  • Bottom of pickets are dark and soft within a few inches of the ground. Sprinkler overspray is the silent fence killer in Los Angeles. Water hits the same spot twice a day, every day, and KraftMaid wood will start to rot at the base long before the rest of the board gives out. If you catch it while the rot is still in the bottom third, we can often sister in replacement pickets rather than replacing the whole run.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

KraftMaid fence installation in Los Angeles runs $4,130 to $10,620 for a typical project. Here’s what moves the number. First, linear footage: a 50-foot side yard with a single gate lands at the lower end; a 150-foot perimeter with two gates and old concrete footings to break out lands at the top. Second, material choice: KraftMaid aluminum runs higher on parts than wood, but it’s close to zero maintenance after install, which matters when you’re looking at it every day from the patio. Third, access: if your fence line is behind mature landscaping, tight to a retaining wall, or on a grade, the crew spends more time on shoring and cleanout.

What’s included in every KraftMaid fence installation we do: all materials at our trade pricing, full tear-out and haul-off of the old fence, concrete footings poured to Los Angeles depth standards, new gate hardware, and a written price before we touch a tool. The written price is the price on the invoice. We don’t do change orders unless you add work. And every installation carries the 365-Day Done Right Promise: if the gate sags, a post shifts, or a section fails inside a year, we come back and fix it at no charge. That’s in writing, not a verbal promise.

DIY or Call Us?

There are a few things any Los Angeles homeowner can safely check before picking up the phone. Look at the gate hinges: are the screws still seated, or have they pulled loose from the post? Is the post cap cracked and lifting? Is there standing water at the base of any post after the sprinklers run? Those observations help us quote the job accurately over the phone. But here’s where DIY goes wrong: pulling a leaning post and resetting it without breaking the concrete collar, or trying to match KraftMaid’s specific fastener depth on a partial picket replacement. A post set too shallow or with the wrong mix will be leaning again by next spring. And a picket fastened with hardware-store screws will split within a season because the gauge is wrong for a 5/8-inch board.

If the gate is off its hinges or a post is moving, we recommend calling a trained crew. We’ll send out our background-checked, uniformed technicians, and they’ll assess the whole fence line while they’re there. Call us at (936) 259-2607 and we’ll schedule a time, give you a written quote, and you can hold us to it.
