KraftMaid Kitchen Remodeling: The Los Angeles Owner’s Guide

KraftMaid kitchen remodeling in Los Angeles typically runs $16,520 to $53,100 depending on cabinet line, layout changes, and countertop material. We stock the common KraftMaid hinge, drawer glides, corner hardware, and mounting parts on our trucks and can usually start most cabinet hardware repairs within a few days. Most Los Angeles homeowners discover they need us when a drawer stops closing cleanly, a door hangs crooked, or the soft-close mechanism just gives out after ten years of daily use.

If you have original KraftMaid cabinets from the 1990s through today and the hardware is tired, that’s actually good news: the box and face frames are typically still solid, which means you don’t need a full gut. In Reseda, Sherman Oaks, or Studio City, we see the same pattern repeatedly: cabinets outlasting their hinges, not the other way around.

Which KraftMaid Models This Applies To

We work on the full KraftMaid line: base and wall cabinets, vanity cabinets, peninsula and island builds, and the specialty pull-out and roll-out tray systems. KraftMaid has used a few different hinge mounting patterns over the years, and there’s a compatibility gotcha you should know: pre-2009 KraftMaid cabinets often shipped with face-frame hinges using a 1/2-inch overlay, while newer lines shifted to full overlay cup hinges that clip to a 35-millimeter bore. They are not interchangeable. If you’re looking at a K-coded label inside the cabinet door, that’s the series code that helps us match the exact replacement part.

For hardware, we generally recommend OEM KraftMaid parts when we’re talking about hinges and drawer glides that see daily wear; the aftermarket equivalents work for roll-out trays and shelf pins, but hinge geometry is precise enough that a generic fits-most part will eventually cause the door to lift or sag in Los Angeles’ dry summers and mild temperature swings. KraftMaid’s Venicia line, which is frameless, uses entirely different clip hardware than the more common Lexington or Durham face-frame lines. If you have Venicia, don’t order hardware before checking because the mounting plates are line-specific.

We also work with cabinetry replacement parts from Cambria, Silestone, and Kohler for the countertop and fixture side of the project, so if your KraftMaid cabs need a new top or a sink flange that matches what’s already there, it’s not a separate job with a separate contractor.

Signs Your KraftMaid Kitchen Remodeling Is Failing

  • Drawer glides sticking or not fully extending. This is almost always side-mounted epoxy or nylon roller failure. The cheap original rollers crack and the ball bearings inside freewheel, which makes the drawer feel like it’s grinding sand.
  • Doors hanging crooked or not aligning with the neighbor cabinet. Hinge fatigue, not a warped door. KraftMaid doors are melamine-wrapped MDF or solid wood, and they rarely warp in LA weather; the hinge loses tension and lets the door drop a quarter inch.
  • Soft-close not doing anything anymore. Those small damper cylinders inside the hinge cup are rated for maybe ten years of use, and in a busy West LA household they fail around seven or eight. The door still closes, it just slams.
  • Roll-out trays derailing or sagging under normal weight. KraftMaid roll-out trays were never meant to hold cast iron or stacks of heavy plates. The bottom-mounted guide gets bent over time and the tray shifts outward; once it starts snagging, the guide wears quick.
  • Cabinet box separating at the corner joints under a stone top. This one is more serious. Old KraftMaid boxes used staple-and-glue corner blocks, and in a century-old Los Angeles house with shifting floor joists, those blocks pop. You’ll see a hairline crack at the face frame toward the back.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

A full KraftMaid kitchen remodel in Los Angeles runs $16,520 to $53,100, but if you’re here because a drawer or hinge failed, you’re looking at the lower end. Our labor and parts pricing for hardware-specific work in LA falls into these ranges:

  • Cabinet hardware repair (hinges, glides, soft-close) including parts: $250 – $700
  • Single cabinet box rebuild or reinforcement: $350 – $900
  • Full cabinet installation (new KraftMaid line, all boxes and trim): $4,720 – $15,340
  • Countertop installation to match new KraftMaid cabinet work: $2,360 – $7,670
  • Complete kitchen remodel covering KraftMaid cabinets, counters, backsplash, island work: $16,520 – $53,100

What drives the number up is layout change: moving a sink or range means plumbing and electrical rework, which means permits, and that’s where the top end lives. What drives it down is a straight replacement of cabinet boxes, same footprint, no wall changes. On every job, big or small, you get the written price before we touch a tool, and if we replace a hinge or drawer guide and it fails inside 365 days, we come back and fix it at no charge under the Done Right Promise. We’re an independent Los Angeles remodeling company, not affiliated with KraftMaid, but we’ll never sell you a part we’re not willing to stand behind for a year.

DIY or Call Us?

You can safely check a few things before calling: look for the KraftMaid K-code sticker inside the cabinet door (that tells us the series and finish), test the soft-close by pressing a door slowly to see where the resistance drops, and count how many doors or drawers are affected. That’s useful intel that saves us both time on the first trip.

What you should not do is start pulling hinges off doors and trying to swap in a new piece from the hardware aisle. KraftMaid’s molded clip hinges are pre-loaded, and if you release one incorrectly with the door still attached, the spring tension shifts into the cup and the door will wrench sideways against the frame, chipping the melamine. That’s a cosmetic damage you can’t unsee. There is no high-tension danger like a garage spring or electrical hazard here, but it’s fiddly enough that a ten-minute repair becomes a door replacement when the wrong tool meets a painted hinge plate. Call us at (936) 259-2607 with a photo of the failed part and the K-code, and we’ll tell you honestly whether it’s a truck-stock fix or a parts-order job.
