PGT Bathroom Remodeling: The Los Angeles Owner’s Guide

If you own a PGT-fitted bathroom and a shower door roller failed, a hinge snapped, or a towel bar pulled loose from the wall, we install the replacement parts and do the surrounding repair work so the whole fixture functions like it should. A full PGT bathroom remodel in Los Angeles typically runs $10,620 – $33,040 depending on scope, but a part-specific repair like a shower door track or glass panel replacement usually lands between $945 and $3,540. Most owners discover the failure the hard way: the door sticks mid-roll, the glass panel shifts when you lean on it, or a hinge screw spins in its hole and no longer bites.

We’re Penhallow Remodeling, a Los Angeles general contractor that handles bathroom remodels and part replacements with a written price before work starts. We’re an independent company, not affiliated with PGT, but we work with PGT glass and hardware regularly because it’s common in homes across the Valley and the westside.

Which PGT Models This Applies To

PGT bathroom products in Southern California typically fall into two buckets: framed shower enclosures with aluminum channel tracks and frameless glass panels with side-mount hinges or roller hardware. The difference matters because parts are not interchangeable between them. A roller assembly from a framed PGT unit won’t fit a frameless panel’s top-hung trolley system.

To identify what you need, look for a small etched label in the corner of the glass panel, usually near the bottom or top rail. It carries a series code that starts with letters like PGW or PGT, followed by numbers. That code tells us the glass thickness (typically 3/8″ or 1/2″ for frameless) and the hardware series. If the label has worn off, measure the glass thickness and the wheel diameter on the roller; those two numbers narrow the options quickly.

For PGT, we recommend OEM hardware when it’s still available, especially for hinge sets and roller assemblies. Aftermarket equivalents exist, but the tolerances on PGT’s aluminum frames are tight. A generic roller that’s 2mm narrower causes the door to sag and scrape. On most older PGT models, the OEM roller runs $22 – $48 per wheel, and we keep common sizes on our trucks for service calls in the Los Angeles area.

Signs Your PGT Bathroom Remodeling Is Failing

  • The door jumps the track or hangs at an angle. This is almost always a worn roller wheel. The nylon tread flattens over 8 – 12 years of daily use, especially in hard-water households where mineral buildup acts like sandpaper on the track.
  • The glass panel feels loose when you push on it. The hinge screws have stripped out of the wall jamb or the frame’s anchor points. In older Los Angeles homes with plaster-on-lath walls, this happens more often because there’s no solid blocking behind the tile to hold a long screw.
  • The door closes by itself or won’t stay open. That means the plumb level shifted. LA’s clay soil expands and contracts with rain and drought cycles, and a house that settles a quarter-inch throws the shower door frame out of square. The hardware’s fine, but the geometry is off.
  • You see rust bloom or pitting on hinges and handles. PGT uses aluminum on most frames, but the hinge pins and set screws are often zinc-plated steel. Coastal air in beach-adjacent Los Angeles neighborhoods accelerates corrosion, and once pitting starts, the hardware will fail within a couple of seasons.
  • Water leaks under the door and onto the bathroom floor. The vinyl sweep or drip rail at the bottom has hardened and split. It’s a $12 – $30 part, but LA homeowners often put it off until the baseboard swells or the subfloor stains.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

A part-specific repair on a PGT bathroom fixture in Los Angeles runs $945 – $3,540 installed, depending on whether we’re swapping a roller set, replacing a hinge pair, or pulling and re-setting a glass panel. A full bathroom remodel with PGT-compatible shower glass and new tile runs $10,620 – $33,040.

What drives the range: glass thickness (3/8″ vs 1/2″ changes panel weight and hardware costs), whether the existing frame stays or gets replaced, and whether the walls need blocking reinforcement before new hinges go in. You’ll see the parts cost and the labor broken out separately on your written quote, so the number we hand you before the work starts is the number on the invoice. Every repair carries our 365-Day Done Right Promise in writing: if the door sags, leaks, or the hardware fails inside a year, we return and fix it at no charge.

DIY or Call Us?

You can safely check a few things yourself before calling us. Run your finger along the track and look for grit or hair buildup. Check whether the screws on the hinges are visibly backed out. Wipe the glass and watch where the door sticks. Those observations help us quote accurately over the phone.

But we don’t recommend replacing PGT shower door rollers, hinges, or glass panels as a DIY job. Frameless shower glass is tempered and heavy; a 3/8-inch panel for a standard Los Angeles shower opening weighs 60 – 90 pounds. When a tempered panel lands on a tile curb at the wrong angle, it doesn’t crack, it detonates into thousands of small pieces. If the door is binding because the house settled, replacing the roller without addressing the frame square means the new roller wears out in a year anyway. Give me the whole picture first, then we pick up the tools. Call (936) 259-2607 and we’ll talk through what you’re seeing before anyone sets foot in your bathroom.
