Sterling Driveway & Pavers: The Los Angeles Owner’s Guide

We install and replace Sterling-compatible driveway and paver systems across Los Angeles, with most installed paver driveway jobs running $8,260 – $21,240 depending on square footage, site prep, and the specific paver line. If you’re calling us, it’s usually because a section of your driveway has settled, cracked, or started separating at the edges, and you want to know whether it’s a patch job or a full replacement. Most Sterling paver failures we see in LA come down to three things: base compaction that wasn’t done right the first time, tree roots from mature ficus and magnolia canopies, or drainage that slowly washed fines out from under the pavers.

We’re an independent Los Angeles contractor, not a Sterling dealer or factory affiliate. What that means for you is we can match your existing pavers from several Los Angeles masonry supply yards without being tied to one distributor’s stock or markup.

Which Sterling Models This Applies To

Sterling’s paver and driveway slab lines cross several product families, but in Los Angeles we mostly see three in residential driveways: the Sterling Stone collection (tumbled-edge concrete pavers in 6×9, 6×6, and 12×12 formats), the Sterling Plaza series (larger-format 16×16 and 24×24 slabs used for driveway aprons and walkways), and older Sterling Holland stone installations that go back 15 to 20 years. If you still have the original invoice or a leftover pallet tag, the product code usually starts with ST or STP followed by a four-digit number. No paperwork? Measure the paver face. Sterling’s 6×9 isn’t exactly 6×9; it’s 5-7/8 by 8-7/8 to allow for the sand joint, which matters because an off-brand paver at true 6×9 will not lay cleanly next to your existing field.

For matching, OEM Sterling pavers are worth hunting down when your driveway is under 10 years old and you’re replacing a section of 15 or fewer pavers. Beyond that, a quality aftermarket equivalent from a Los Angeles yard that stocks Belgard or Calstone lines will blend faster because the existing pavers have UV-faded anyway. New pavers never match old pavers exactly, even from the same mold. We’ll tell you that before you spend money on a pallet.

Signs Your Sterling Driveway & Pavers Are Failing

  • Low spots that hold water after rain. Los Angeles doesn’t get much rain, but when it comes, a low spot that stays wet for a day tells you the base under that section has compacted or washed out. Water pooling accelerates paver damage and eventually works its way toward your foundation.
  • Pavers rocking or “clicking” underfoot. A paver that shifts when you step on it means the bedding sand beneath it has migrated. It will not self-correct, and continuing to drive over it chips the paver edges, which brings us to the next sign.
  • Chipped or spalled paver surfaces. Freeze-thaw isn’t really an LA problem, but sun and thermal cycling take their own toll. Concrete pavers expand and contract daily in our climate, and a paver that was already stressed from a shifting base will start flaking at the edges and corners.
  • Sand joints disappearing in a section. If the joint sand between your pavers keeps vanishing after rain or a good hose-down, water is moving under the pavers, not over them. This is the early warning for settlement issues.
  • Edge pavers curling outward. Driveway edges without a proper paver restraint, usually a concrete edge or a buried plastic edge, drift outward under vehicle weight. Eventually the outside row starts to separate, and from there the whole field loosens.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

In Los Angeles, a full Sterling paver driveway replacement runs $8,260 – $21,240 installed, which is $14 – $22 per square foot for typical residential driveway work. Partial repairs, like resetting a settled section or replacing 30 to 50 damaged pavers, usually land between $1,200 and $3,500. What moves the number most is access (narrow side yards and sloped driveways in neighborhoods like Mt. Washington or Silver Lake add labor), how much base material has to be excavated and recompacted, and whether we’re matching an existing paver line or starting fresh. A paver patio replacement runs $4,130 – $12,980 if you’re also looking at the back of the house.

Every quote from us is a written price before work starts, and the number we hand you on day one is the number on the invoice. That written quote includes tear-out and haul-away of the old pavers, base prep and compaction, the pavers themselves, joint sand, edge restraint, and a written workmanship warranty. Under our 365-Day Done Right Promise, if a section settles or fails inside the first year, we come back and fix it at no charge. Driveway sealing on an existing paver surface, if you want it done separately, runs $295 – $825 in Los Angeles.

DIY or Call Us?

What you can safely do is measure the affected area, clear debris from the joints, and take photos of any pattern or color markings on the back of a loose paver. If you’re curious about drainage, watch what happens during the next rain and note where water lingers. What goes wrong with DIY on pavers is almost always the base. If you pull up 20 pavers and reuse the old base because it “looked fine,” the repair will settle again in six months. Compaction is the difference between a driveway that holds flat for 20 years and one that waves like the 405 through the Sepulveda Pass. Pavers are heavy, the work is hard on knees and backs, and one overloaded wheelbarrow on a sloped LA driveway is a genuine injury risk. We’re happy to talk you through what you’re seeing over the phone, and if you’d rather hand it off, call (936) 259-2607 and we’ll schedule a site look.

If your Sterling driveway is showing its age, call us at (936) 259-2607. We’ll answer, listen, and either talk you through what you’re seeing or schedule a time to come look at it in person. You’ll get a written price before any work starts, and a written guarantee that covers it for a full year when it’s done. And if you’re already thinking about other parts of the house, we also stock and install parts for KraftMaid cabinetry, Cambria quartz, and Silestone surfaces, so we’re familiar with how these lines age in Los Angeles homes. Give me the whole picture first, then we pick up the tools.
