Toto Bathroom Remodeling: The Los Angeles Owner’s Guide

A full Toto bathroom remodeling project in Los Angeles typically runs $10,620 – $33,040, and most jobs take two to four weeks depending on whether you’re replacing fixtures only or moving walls and plumbing. We stock Toto-compatible parts on our service trucks, and we can usually match your model on the first visit. Most Los Angeles homeowners call us because a Toto toilet is leaking at the wax ring, a Toto washlet has stopped heating water, or a Toto shower valve has started dripping behind the escutcheon plate. What starts as a small annoyance turns into a bigger question: do I replace the part, or is it time to remodel the whole bathroom while we’re in there?

Which Toto Models This Applies To

Toto’s product lines are extensive, and the compatibility rules matter more than most homeowners expect. We regularly work on the Drake, Drake II, Ultramax, Carlyle, Nexus, Legato, and Aquia series, plus the Washlet and Neorest integrated toilet lines. The key identifier on most Toto toilets is the model number stamped inside the tank or on the bowl near the water inlet, usually starting with “CST” or “MS” followed by a series of digits. Do not skip this step. A Drake tank will not necessarily fit a Drake II bowl, and mixing generations of the same series can leave you with a wobble at the bowl-to-tank connection that no amount of tightening will fix.

When it comes to OEM parts versus quality aftermarket, we’re straightforward about the tradeoff. Toto OEM parts are engineered to exact tolerances and carry the manufacturer’s warranty, but they’re also the most expensive option and sometimes take a week to arrive from distribution. Quality aftermarket flush valves, fill valves, and flappers from brands like Korky are often functionally identical and available same-day. For anything involving the Washlet electronics, the heated seat, or the electric bidet controls, we recommend OEM. For a standard fill valve or flapper, aftermarket is fine and saves you real money. We’ll show you both prices before we touch a wrench.

Signs Your Toto Bathroom Remodeling Is Failing

  • Phantom flushing or water running intermittently: The flapper or the flush valve seal has degraded, usually from mineral buildup in Los Angeles’ hard water. Water slowly seeps from tank to bowl, the fill valve kicks on to compensate, and you hear it cycle every 20 or 30 minutes. If left alone, your water bill climbs by $15 – $40 a month in most LA households.
  • Water seeping at the base of the toilet: The wax ring has failed, or the flange beneath it has cracked. In older Los Angeles homes with cast iron drain lines, the flange rusts through and the toilet begins to rock. Rocking breaks the wax seal faster, which is why we always check level before resetting a bowl.
  • Washlet seat not heating or bidet spray is weak: Toto’s Washlet models have a water heater and pump inside the seat housing. Hard water scale builds on the heating element, or the inlet filter clogs with sediment. In LA, where water hardness varies block by block depending on your source, this is the most common Washlet failure we see.
  • Shower valve drips or handle is hard to turn: The Toto cartridge inside the valve body wears out, and mineral deposits make the stem bind. You’ll notice the drip gets worse in winter when the water heater works harder and pressure in the lines changes.
  • Slow refill or weak flush: The fill valve is partially clogged with sediment, or the rim jets under the toilet bowl rim are scaled over. In parts of the Valley with older galvanized supply lines, rust flakes are the usual culprit. This reduces flush force enough that you’re double-flushing, which defeats the purpose of a Toto in the first place.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

For the part-and-labor side of Toto bathroom work, a single toilet reset with new wax ring, flange repair if needed, and new supply line runs $470 – $2,125 in Los Angeles. A Washlet seat replacement runs $945 – $3,540 installed, depending on model. A Toto shower valve cartridge replacement runs $470 – $2,125. A full Toto bathroom remodel, which might include new vanity, new shower surround or tub, new flooring, and all new Toto fixtures, lands between $10,620 and $33,040. The range widens when you move the toilet or shower drain, open walls for new plumbing, or add electrical for a heated floor.

Every quote we write includes parts, labor, disposal, and the written warranty on the work. We don’t quote labor and then bill for “unforeseen” materials. The number we put in writing is the number on the invoice. If a Toto part fails inside the 365-Day Done Right Promise period, we come back and fix it at no charge. No re-inspection fee, no service call fee, no “well that’s a different problem” conversation.

DIY or Call Us?

There are a few things you can safely check on a Toto toilet without tools: lift the tank lid and confirm the flapper is seating fully, check the supply valve at the wall is fully open, and look for cracks in the tank or bowl. Beyond that, proceed with care. Lifting a toilet to replace a wax ring is simple in theory and unforgiving in practice: the bowl weighs 40 – 80 pounds, the porcelain cracks if it torques on uneven tile, and a dropped toilet on a tile floor means replacing the floor as well as the toilet. For Washlet electronics, we don’t recommend DIY at all. The seat contains a heating element and water pump, and moisture plus electricity plus an amateur wiring job is a combination that goes wrong fast.

Give me the whole picture first, then we pick up the tools. If you’re noticing any of the symptoms above, call us at (936) 259-2607 and describe what you’re seeing. We’ll tell you over the phone whether it’s a $30 flapper or a $3,000 washlet issue, and we’ll schedule a visit that fits your window.
